Description

ArcGIS: Mapping Place-Based Data

June 21-22

We will learn the basics of the ArcGIS mapping platform and learn how to integrate it into your place-based projects. Great for any grade level that has a project with data, images, information, or stories that could be mapped.

Objectives: Through learning about the maritime industry, and the skills and dispositions required in the maritime workforce, teachers will develop maritime and place-based projects that will grow these same skills and dispositions in their students. Teachers will increase student engagement by learning and applying best practices including: workshop model, thinking strategies, project-based learning, and cooperative learning.

Description: Each session will include a full day of immersion, hands on experience, and observation in a maritime industry worksite. An additional days will be devoted to place-based curriculum development. The experience and observation from the maritime industry observation will be incorporated into project development. In addition, teachers will deepen their understanding of project design, workshop model, thinking strategies, and cooperative learning to craft rigorous place-based projects. Clock hours and hourly pay for Port Townsend staff available.
